The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced individual to join us as an Accounting Director, with a focus on Agriculture throughout Cumbria and South West Scotland. The main responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to:
- Overseeing the planning and prioritising of all relevant client work ensuring effective departmental workflow
- Overseeing and ensuring establishment of scope and budget for each piece of client work and ensure adequate briefing to team members
- Ensure full agreement of client for work to be undertaken and communicate likely fees prior to commencement to maximise fee recovery
- Owning and managing departmental financial performance. Agree and brief departmental targets, monitor performance and publish monthly results
- Supporting the Accounting team in delivering the required departmental incremental fee
- target via networking, meeting attendance, business pitches and input into marketing

- Proactively contacting clients when items of interest or benefit to the client arise therefore
- adding value
- Ensuring adequate contact availability for clients, Armstrong Watson personnel and
- external organisations with self and team members as appropriate
- Provide expert business advisory services encompassing accounts, tax, and broader industry considerations
- Stay abreast of industry trends and regulations to ensure proactive advisory support.
- Providing input into the recruitment of ‘the very best’ people for job roles within Accounting as required
- Ensuring the defining and the agreement of formal objectives for all direct reports
The Candidate
In order to fulfil the role, we expect a candidate to be / have:
- Experience within the Agricultural sector or have a genuine passion for the industry
- Either ACA or ACCA qualified
- Experienced in providing advice to clients and colleagues and ensure all advice which is given is accurate technically (appropriate and clear)
- Focused on the development and implementation of plans to ensure the firm is ‘prepared’ for future technical or legislative developments
- Able to complete required CPD records and ensure this remains up-to-date
- Able to make decisions courageously and confidently often where outcomes may be unpopular or uncharted
- Experienced in managing the performance and development of reports and be able to inspire them to achieve their career ambitions
- Determined to drive the firm forward and be able to build strong (both prospect and current client) relationships
