UX Researcher
Job Description
Job title: UX Researcher
Company: Thomson Reuters
Job description: Reuters is looking for a User Experience Researcher to join our growing UX Research team that sits within the Reuters Product Design team. This is a new team, and we are looking for a researcher who can manage and collaborate on user research projects across various projects to allow us to scale the operation. Proactivity is crucial, and you must have strong communication skills, humility, a positive outlook, and the ability to work with colleagues in various roles and regions.
This role will work closely with designers, product developers, editorial professionals, and engineers and will be responsible for applying research solutions to their unique problems. The core responsibility of this role is to work with stakeholders to identify how research can be used to make our digital products more usable and useful so that we are providing our users with value at every opportunity.
About the Role:
As a UX Researcher, you will:
- Work collaboratively with user experience team members and other stakeholders as part of an agile software development process.
- Determine and recommend the most efficient and effective UX research approaches to solve business needs, meet agreed-upon objectives, and guide business areas through the appropriate UX process.
- Draft research plans and associated research materials (specifically interview guides and survey questionnaires).
- Conduct primary research – specifically by moderating interviews, building surveys, and other unmoderated studies (experience using tools such as UserZoom and Qualtrics are a plus but not essential).
- Synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to create actionable stories to drive product and design decisions.
- Write reports of insights and observations and present them back to key stakeholders.
- Educate stakeholders and team members on why a research decision was made.
- Assist with other discovery and foundational research activities to inform UX design decisions (such as user journeys and personas).
- Take ownership of self-development, and stay current with research techniques and tools.
- Be a self-starter. Take initiative and drive assigned projects from beginning to end.
- Work with the senior UX team to develop a robust UX research system, which provides open access to information regarding UX, so that everyone can contribute to the design research process and utilize methods accordingly.
About You:
To be our UX Researcher you will likely have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years’ experience conducting UX research, with experience managing both qualitative and quantitative studies.
- Experience working in a small team, with the ability to manage a research project from design through to the delivery presentation.
- Experience applying UX research solutions to both mobile and desktop products and understanding the different UX considerations of both.
- Experience applying research methods including but not limited to usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, personas, interviews, and focus groups.
- Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, customers, and team members.
- Comfort with independently planning, prioritizing, conducting, analyzing, and communicating research in various contexts.
- Dedication to advocating for user-centered, evidence-based approaches to product development, while balancing business needs.
- Understanding of the importance of teamwork.
- A willingness to grow with the role and make it your own.
- Comfortable working in a complex and dynamic environment, juggling multiple priorities, and interacting with people at all levels of the organization and across various functions.
