A.R.T. team seeks candidates with proven research credentials in robotic systems to join the Autonomous Systems team in Cork, Ireland. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong mix of academic background and applied experience in the design and critical performance evaluation of emerging technologies in robotic systems, and a passion for applying these skills within the aerospace and autonomy domains. This is a research-focused role. This role requires a focus on innovation & strong execution, as well as a deep theoretical understanding of artificial intelligence applied to robotic systems. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a relevant STEM field and enjoy collaborating with a highly dynamic team of their peers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research, design and fast prototype solutions for robotic systems by applying advanced artificial intelligence methods.
  • Contribute to a growing research agenda for future aerospace systems within the Collins Aerospace (and Raytheon Technologies) Advanced Technology research community, defining scientific and technical problems, developing solutions and planning technical tasks.
  • Execute R&D/T activities within an international research community, including technology development within collaborative EU research projects (under e.g. Horizon Europe, SESAR, Clean Sky, Clean Aviation, ECSEL).
  • Provide competitive advantage for Collins Aerospace strategic business units as part of a multidisciplinary and international team of experts.
  • Contribute towards technical strategy and business development by initiating, proposing and executing research proposal opportunities in novel/areas of Collins Aerospace applications.
  • Deliver scientific reports and identify opportunities to create intellectual property.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Motivated self-starter with a strong enthusiasm to learn and passion for speed and agility.
  • Well-organized and has excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills to work in international, heterogeneous and diverse teams.
  • Willing to champion and challenge new technical ideas.
  • Able to adapt to new challenges and go beyond the original field of expertise.
  • Able to partner with universities, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations to meet organizational objectives within time and budget constraints.
  • A proven research applied or academic track record on one of more of the following subjects Autonomous Systems, Robotic Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Perception, Reasoning, Computer Vision, Speech Recognition, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality.
  • A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, with a few years of industrial or academic experience, or a Master’s degree with significant experience of industry or academia.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applied research with deployment and demonstrators in one or more of the following domains: advanced air mobility, unmanned systems (UTM, UAS), autonomous cars/trucks, industry 4.0 or 5.0.
  • Knowledge of navigation systems, sensor fusion, and motion planning.
  • Knowledge of emerging sensing technologies.
