About the role

As a key member of our Biological Science Unit (BSU) team, the role holder will support world-class research in our Home Office-licenced Animal Facility. 

Working as part of our small team, the role holder will support staff across our Life Sciences Department and wider University. 

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for the day-to-day practical tasks required in the BSU. 

The role holder will be responsible for carrying out practical tasks related to the husbandry and welfare of all animals (carried out in accordance with Home Office Guidance). 

They will also assist the BSU Technician and Manager on logistical matters. 

Health and Safety is an absolute priority and alongside more practical duties, our team are expected to promote excellent H&S culture and contribute to a positive working environment. 

Organisation and motivation are key for success in this active role. 

It is also essential that candidates can demonstrate a capacity for effective communication. 

It is a desirable requirement of this role to hold or to be in the process of gaining a Home Office (personal) licence. However, attaining this licence while in post could discussed at interview. 

An enthusiastic person who enjoys work of a practical nature would fit well in our friendly team. 

Candidates with a Life Sciences background or equivalent work experience are encouraged to apply.

This role requires some weekend cover, but the bulk of the role is Monday to Friday covering regular working hours.
