Salary – £56,187 – £62, 428 (with candidates being offered the starting salary for the grade unless they have significant experience)
Length of Contract – 18 months
The Research Manager is a key member of the Evidence & Insights Directorate Management Team, contributing to directorate decision making and championing research excellence.
The role will establish and oversee Zero Waste Scotland’s programme of research, seeking to maximise circular economy impact through strong alignment with policy. You will play a vital role in developing Zero Waste Scotland’s influence within the UK’s research landscape, actively engaging key stakeholders across the public, private and academic sectors and building collaborative and partnership opportunities.
You will be responsible for developing and leading a high performing and motivated research team, supporting and coaching team members, and encouraging collaborative working across Zero Waste Scotland.

You are an exceptional communicator with an ability to build trust and to forge strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
You have a background in leading the utilisation of research, with experience in securing research funding and with a detailed understanding of the research and innovation landscape in the UK and Scotland.
You have a history of building and leading high performing, motivated teams that work collaboratively across the organisation.
What you’ll be doing;
Reporting to the Head of Research & Propositions, you will be responsible for the day to day management of Zero Waste Scotland’s Research & Analysis team, ensuring that all team members have clear goals aligned to organisational objectives and supporting and coaching them as required.
You will champion continuous improvement across the team, enabling and assuring that research excellence standards are met, whilst overseeing the development and delivery of a portfolio of research projects.
You will proactively lead Zero Waste Scotland’s engagement with research institutes, academic institutions and other private and public sector organisations, seeking opportunities to develop external research partnerships and collaborations.
You will identify relevant research funding opportunities to support Zero Waste Scotland’s outcomes and drive the development of funding bids with internal and external partners.
