Description of Post

The post relates primarily to the teaching, training, assessment and academic administrative direction of apprenticeship including:

  • Electrical Apprenticeship

The Assistant Lecturer will be required to comply with the policy of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology in the choice of teaching and training methods and technologies, and to undertake training to keep abreast of technological developments and changes to the SOLAS apprenticeship programmes.

The priority subject areas to be covered include:

  • Electrical Science
  • Electrical Craft Theory
  • Electrical Workshop
  • Electronics Theory
  • Electronics Practical’s
  • Mathematics
  • Computing

In addition, the Assistant Lecturer will be required to organise and supervise project work, as specified to meet the Learning Outcomes of the programme.

Appointment(s) may be on a 5 Year Fixed-Term basis as required at Assistant Lecturer level. A panel will be created for any vacancies that may arise in the future.

Please note: The postholder will be based at the ATU Donegal, Killybegs Campus.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum

  • Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate or equivalent.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of five years post-qualification experience.
  • The person appointed must be capable of teaching Electrical and Electronic subjects.
  • Project management, teamwork and leadership skills, and excellent communication skills are absolutely essential

Desirable

  • A graduate and postgraduate qualification in Electronic or Automation, or in a closely related area
  • Industrial experience in an Electrical or Automation Engineering environment
  • Teaching experience in Electrical Apprenticeship
  • Membership to relevant association such as Safe Electric
