Job description: Design & Research Strategy

Supporting the research and design approach for projects

  • Supporting the Senior in creating the most effective ways to do research and design engagement with communities and stakeholders
  • Responsible for taking a design-led approach, working iteratively, and taking a call on when approaches need to change
  • Supporting to ensure research is done in creative ways that are non-extractive, but nourishing to communities.

Design & Research Delivery

Doing good research and design

  • Supporting on the creation of tools and methods to support research – with a focus on equity
  • Support the delivery of a variety creative approaches to research and design.
  • Support on designing and facilitating co-design workshops.
  • Relational Research: carrying out authentic conversation with Black individuals and communities to identify needs and assets.
  • Ensuring that we learn about the right things by consolidating and building on existing knowledge, desk research and analysis.
  • Creating hypothesis and framing opportunities
  • Translating research into rich and actionable insights.

Developing & Testing Ideas

Making ideas real with communities

  • Supporting on the development of prototypes of ideas to test with communities
  • Supporting the development of testing plans
  • Working iteratively to develop ideas
  • Supporting to create value proposition for ideas

Insights & Narrative Building

Developing compelling narratives

  • Supporting to develop rich insights uncovering lived experiences and systemic problems and opportunities for change.
  • Developing outputs that tell a compelling narrative and advocates for change
  • Visualise insights and learnings
  • Presenting and telling the story of the project to stakeholders

Design Operations

Setting-up research & design for success

  • Recruiting community members for research
  • Creating clear and engaging communications
  • Curating nourishing experience and engagements

Requirements

  • You have experience working in design, innovation or strategy.
  • You are passionate about and brilliant at creative problem solving.
  • You deeply care about systemic injustice facing the Black communities and achieving racial equity.
  • You are an empath and have a natural ability to build authentic relationships.
  • You like to challenge the status quo and find new and better ways to create impact.
  • You enjoy using and creating participatory methods of research.
  • You are artful at communicating insights and ideas with impact.
  • You like your work to engage your heart and head.
  • You don’t mind getting your hands dirty in real and authentic community engagement.
