What is the overall job?

As the Social Value & Community Manager your focus will be to lead and to support your project team(s) Lead in managing, measuring, and reporting on all aspects of social value, which includes employability, community and neighbourhood engagement, ethical labour, local procurement, and other aspects such as charitable works etc.

You will manage interfaces and relationships with the supply chain, project team and local stakeholders such as the relevant councils, community groups, schools, colleges, and universities. You will work with your project teams and support them to deliver on social value and community commitments and contractual obligations in line with specific project and corporate requirements. You will be the key point of contact for community activities and will provide education and support to the project teams on delivering social value successfully. You will also act as the main point of contact for local project neighbours. Other key responsibilities will include:

  • To contribute and support with annual social value reporting (within the wider ESG reporting) and ensure it’s completed in a timely fashion
  • To measure and calculate the social return of investment in your projects
  • To work with the package managers to establish a construction partnership with key supply chain partners in order to support the delivery of social value and community targets and pre-employment activities
  • To develop external partnerships that will support target deliverables
  • Work collaboratively with the Health & Safety Manager within your project teams to attend any workforce consultation meetings

What do I need to be successful in this role?

To be successful in this role you will need to have experience of community engagement within the construction industry. Other beneficial skills and experience will include:

  • Experience of managing stakeholder relationships
  • Experience of event management
  • IT literate – Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • Strong written and verbal language skills
  • Team player
