Job description: Operations/Logistics Manager (010jc) – Milton Keynes – up to £40k + Benefits.
Ex-Mil Recruitment has been asked by one of the world’s Largest International Logistics providers to assist them in sourcing an Ops/Logistics Manager for one of their key Security Cleared clients based in the Milton Keynes area.
As part of the contract team, reporting to the General Manager of this contract, this role is responsible for managing the onsite operational team delivering customer service excellence in line with contractual requirements and supporting the General Manager with performance management, financial reporting and second line escalation.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:
Ensures the company onsite operations team adheres to the client’s business and contract processes, including but not limited to:
- Accurate data entry into company operating system and other shipping platforms.
- Management and processing of all shipments. Ensuring strict compliance on all required paperwork, including customs processes, invoicing and all other essential air, courier, road, and ocean Import/Export related documentation.
- Provide all relevant service providers with the required information for successful service delivery in line with the contracted Service Level Agreement (SLA).
- Oversee all shipping instructions are clear, concise and are provided in the correct format to all business partners and in good time.
- Manage in-transit milestones, for all shipments by obtaining the latest status information, updating transport management systems and monitor accordingly.
- Responsible for the delivery of time sensitive finance information ensuring the businesses milestones are met.
- Overseeing the processing of sales invoices in line with the companies KPI and the contract deliverables.
- Lead and mentor a team of logistics professionals.
- Ensure compliance with local and international shipping regulations.
- Optimise transportation routes and methods to reduce cost and improve service delivery.
- Address any service failure promptly and implement corrective actions.
- Set clear objectives and provide regular performance feedback through weekly team briefs encouraging feedback and sharing continuous improvement ideas.
- Responsible for all the teams training needs.
- Manage all elements of finance including financial discrepancy resolution.
- Comply with all relevant work and safety legislation, standards and organisational procedures and UK security regulations.
- In depth understanding across key transportation modes; airfreight, sea freight, courier, and road products.
- Oversee the accuracy and delivery of customer reports.
- Consider initiatives which will enhance the customer experience and service excellence.
- Lead internal relationships, within departments such as warehouse and transport teams to ensure error free handling of diplomatic material.
- Second line escalation point for resolution of complex service issues and problems, complaints, quality, non-compliance, and operational irregularities with follow up and query resolution through company CRM platform.
- Collaborate and foster positive relationships with suppliers, vendors, and company global network.
- Ensure that the operation is resilient and capable of handling unexpected challenges.
To be eligible for this role you will need:
- A good standard of education
- IT Literate with Microsoft Office
- Up to 5 years’ experience in the Freight Forwarding industry.
- Knowledge of Level D Security and dangerous goods regulations will be an advantage; however, my client will offer training to a suitable individual.
- Knowledge of International Trading terms and international standards for freight carriage, insurance, and costs.
Due to the nature of this role, you will need to be able to pass and hold Home Office SC Clearance, as you will need this to work on the client site, and also having a fully checkable 5-year work history as this is part of the industry standard.
The ideal candidate would be someone coming from a logistics/freight forwarding background, who has experience of moving good across the globe.
This role is based on the client’s site Mon – Fri on a 35 hr week, but due to the fact that security clearances may take up to 4 months, they will imbed you with one of their teams locally, and also expect you to travel to their HQ in Heathrow once or twice per month as well, but once clearance comes though, you will be based at the client site.
