Job description: EPUT is looking to appoint a compassionate Specialty Doctor who will provide consistent, high quality Medical input support to the SCFT team.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be expected to work independently and provide clinical leadership to the team, through good multi-professional working. The post holder will have shared responsibility for the clinical care of those patients referred to the team and will be expected to work closely with the consultant and team manager to ensure the provision of an effective service to the patients in community.The SCFT supports patients who suffer from enduring and severe mental illness, such as severe personality disorder, bipolar affective disorder or schizophrenia, which in some cases is treatment-resistant. We place strong emphasis on treatment in line with the recovery model.Similarly, we prioritise close teamwork, consistency and meeting the needs of our patients while setting and abiding by firm boundaries.You should be eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983. Job responsibilities * Observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures.

  • Provide, with consultant colleagues, a service in the specialty for the Trust with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
  • Honour out-of-hours responsibilities, including rota commitments where contracted.
  • Provide agreed cover for colleagues periods of leave.
  • Participate in audit and continuing medical education.
  • Contribute to the training of junior medical staff and medical students.
  • Be involved in research and teaching where appropriate.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment. Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of conducting cognitive assessments.

Skills/Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice

Clinical skills
Essential

  • Experience of working with adults in a community/inpatient forensic setting within mental health services.
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job and specialty.
  • Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Understanding the HCR-20 risk assessments. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
  • Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.
  • Knowledge and experience of conducting cognitive assessments is desirable.
  • Clinical governance: Capacity to be alert to dangers or problems. Demonstrates awareness of good decision making. Aware of own limitations. Track record of engaging in clinical governance: reporting errors, learning from errors.

Communication skills
Essential

  • Effective communication skills: demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication and capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation.
  • Empathy and sensitivity: capacity to listen and take in others’ perspectives.
  • Works in partnership with service users: always considers services users
