The Role and the Department

Durham University seeks to employ a Food and Beverage Service Head to lead the catering operations across Stephenson and Ustinov Colleges.

Stephenson College is located on the Howlands site, south of the city, it houses over 400 undergraduate and postgraduate self-catered students. Ustinov College is located at Sheraton Park at Nevilles Cross and houses over 400 postgraduate self-catered students.

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative individual with excellent communication skills and extensive high-profile, high volume food service management and multi-site experience.

This exciting role requires the highest standard of service delivery, promoting student experience and customer satisfaction. This role is a permanent position within the University’s Operations Directorate, offering flexibility to work any five days within a working week, including some evenings, in alignment with business requirements.

The primary responsibility involves overseeing the food and beverage service operations and teams across both Colleges, broadly encompassing banqueting, buffets and two college bars.

Our college bars are developmental spaces and the hub of the college community. They are used by our students as a place to study, work on group projects, and enjoy a broad range of events, both academic related and social. Banqueting and buffets are generally provided to build college community, some are informal, others are formal college dinners that follow the plated banquet service format.

The Colleges Operations Directorate forms part of the Colleges and Student Experience Division, which is responsible for providing a world class student experience to our diverse student community.

The Colleges Operations Directorate plays an integral role in providing excellent services and facilities to support the personal development of students. The services provided by the Directorate include catering, housekeeping and reception.
