The successful applicant will be the driving force and site subject matter expert for food safety and quality. Working as part of a multifunctional team to ensure compliance across site from raw material intake through to despatch of finished product and managing all technical objectives and projects.To lead continuous improvements to deliver cost and waste reductions in all formats. To improve and develop a Quality Culture through coaching, mentoring and strong personal leadership. Manage reportable site quality KPIs, customer complaints, weekly and monthly meetings. Drive forward the site wide Health & Safety policies.
Main Responsibilities

  • Work with the group health and safety manager to eliminate risks to employees, products and environment through rigorous health & safety measures and ensure SOPs are followed
  • Maintain a proactive health and safety culture within operations; ensure all team members consistently deliver site safety through best practices training and visual reminders
  • Support in any accident investigations that may occur
  • Play a proactive role in the health & safety audits
  • Manage and motivate the quality team to deliver their Goals and Objectives
  • Ensure that non-conformance is challenged, and counter-measures are agreed and implemented through identification of root cause and effective preventative actions
  • Provide detailed food safety advice and guidance to site.
  • Ensure new and existing equipment is fit for purpose. Provide guidance as the quality representative on new projects such as – hygienic design, technical specification, food contact materials and validation of cleaning methods
  • Manage internal and external laboratory testing such as – raw materials, products, process validations and environmental testing and ensure they are completed in accordance to audit schedules and validated frequencies
  • Lead the sites quality, HACCP and food defence teams. Plan and prepare monthly meetings in readiness for site audits and maintain sites BRC accreditation
  • Support the company Quality Management System (QMS) – Qualsys
  • Manage root cause analysis of complaints and incorporate any corrective, preventative measures and controls as required
  • Support business development team by providing information to stakeholders on products and processes, such as scientific and regulatory changes that affect our products
  • Drive and improve key quality metrics and objectives
  • Review and create SOP’s and policies to ensure they are robust, demonstrable and meet current audit guidance and industry best practices
  • Establish and encourage an “Always Audit Ready” culture
  • Ensure all production records such as – manufacturing, quality, hygiene records are completed, controlled and retained
  • Maintain the quality checks for incoming materials through to finished products, checking COA’s and completing the analysis database
  • Manage laboratory testing for the site and ensure microbiological and environmental analysis is completed as per internal schedule
  • Carry out audits such as – GMP, internal audits, glass and brittle plastic, H&S, including the reporting and monitoring of any non-conformances and corrective actions
  • Assist customers and internal stakeholders with queries and completion of customer technical documentation
  • Create, develop and train out QMS policies and procedures internally as required
  • Proactively manage and embrace change
  • Deliver the department KPIs
  • Deliver agreed objectives on time
  • Maintain the quality checks for incoming materials through to finished products, checking COA’s and completing the analysis database
  • Manage laboratory testing for the site and ensure microbiological and environmental analysis is completed as per internal schedule
  • Carry out audits such as – GMP, internal audits, glass and brittle plastic, H&S, including the reporting and monitoring of any non-conformances and corrective actions

  • Ideally a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a quality/technical role within the food and drinks industry
  • A science degree in Biology or Chemistry is preferred but not essential -experience must be demonstrable
  • HACCP level 3 minimum
  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Internal auditing training
  • Microbiology/laboratory experience – understanding micro risks, creating testing suites, interpreting results, validating results
  • Sound computer skills – including experience in using ‘best of breed’ systems/ software.
