Job description: Our Neurodiversity and Reading Specialists work collaboratively with tutors and staff within Education to provide support to learners with neurodiverse and inclusion needs including those with disabilities. Their role is to promote an effective and inclusive learning environment, providing support to learners over the course of the working week and screening prisoners with low level reading ability. As a successful Neurodiversity and Reading Specialist, you will be a passionate, creative, and empathetic towards our learners and be able to offer knowledge and guidance and support to learners with neurodiverse and inclusion needs including those with disabilities. The ideal candidate will be someone who is able to inspire and support learners throughout their academic and vocational studies.Key responsibilities:
- Carry out initial and detailed screening activity on a monthly basis as outlined in the C16 schedule.
- Identify the neurodiverse and inclusion needs of individual prisoners through the screening process.
- Use the screening outcomes effectively to adapt support materials to ensure that neurodiverse learner needs are met within intervention and/or support sessions.
- To share recommendations and strategies with tutors following screening, using the summary sheet in the initial and detailed screener.
- Creating Individual Learning Support Plans.
- Coordinate, deliver and manage the allocation of support to those that have a learning support plan.
- Implement appropriate intervention and support strategies to improve the performance of the cohort of learners with neurodiverse needs.
- Maintaining records of learner progress, including monitoring and reviewing the Learning Support Plan.
- Deliver inspirational learning support to those that have a learning support plan. This may be delivered in class or within a workshop as part of a small group or a one to one learning opportunities.
- Provide provision of Learning Support within accredited learning programmes, leading to employability outcomes.
- Providing appropriate evidence for applications to awarding organisations for reasonable adjustments in formal assessments.
- Motivating learners to complete tasks and encourage them to interact and work cooperatively with others.
- Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all learners, celebrating diversity and ensuring the implementation of equal opportunities.
- Collaboratively manage the behaviour of the learners, promoting and maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
- To conduct reading screeners with prisoners that can not read or have low level reading ability.
- To develop and implement reading interventions for individuals or groups of prisoners.
- Write and update reading plans for prisoners.
- Monitor and report on reading progress of prisoners.
- Develop resources to help support prisoners with low level reading ability.
- Complying with the security requirements of HM Prison Services at all times.
Person specification:Education, training and qualifications:
- Have a good basic general education including GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at Grade C.
- To hold or be willing to work towards a Level 3 qualification for Inclusion Support Coordinators within an agreed timescale.
- Have experience of working in a learning environment.
- Have well-developed interpersonal skills in relating to prison staff and in working with students who may have little experience of education and training.
Skills, knoweldge and abilities:
- To be able to manage a caseload of learners with neurodiverse and inclusion needs including those with disabilities.
- Knowledge of Special Educ
Expected salary: £32000 per year
