Job description: Location : Almondsbury, United Kingdom Job AdvertWe have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal/Associate Civil Engineer to join our highly regarded, progressive and award-winning Civil & Structural team in Bristol, at either our Merchant’s House or Almondsbury office.We are looking for a talented engineer with great experience and a bias towards pavement design to join our Highways team. Candidates should have excellent technical and communication skills, and the desire to work in a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary team focused on sustainability, technical excellence, and project delivery.The Highways team delivers a range of projects across the UK, including highways, major logistics sites, major residential infrastructure, and aviation infrastructure (including runways, taxiways and aircraft stands) – just a flavour of the kind of projects that await a career in Hydrock.Your role will include:
- Collaborating as a member of a growing multi-disciplinary consultancy.
- Operating across a range of projects.
- Working and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Undertaking scheme development, preliminary and detailed designs and project coordination.
- Providing specialist technical and professional advice to internal teams and external clients, including pavement inspections, defect investigations and maintenance advice.
- Contribute to or lead on work winning, budgetary control of project finances and preparing fee proposals.
- Mentoring and supporting emergent team members, to uphold the quality and accuracy of technical and non-technical deliverables.
- Working in a design office environment, while also playing an active role in design and site meetings, site inspections and progress reporting.
- Good communication and effective liaison with clients, architects, contractors and regulatory/statutory authorities are therefore considered key attributes.
You will be set up for success if you have:
- BEng, MEng, BSc, MSc in civil engineering, with significant experience gained in a design office environment.
- Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution (IEng or CEng preferred, but not essential)
- Background in highways and/or airfield pavement design and construction.
- Experience in the management and/or supervision of pavement construction works.
- Knowledge and understanding of pavement design principles (Flexible, Rigid and Composite Pavements).
- Knowledge and understanding of earthworks and pavement materials (Concrete, Asphalt and Hydraulically Bound Materials).
- Experience in the use of UK and/or international standards for the design of pavements for highways, airfields, ports, and other applications.
- Knowledge of construction techniques and practices for new construction, repair and maintenance works, including recycling.
- Experience in specification, execution, analysis, and interpretation of a comprehensive range of geotechnical and pavement investigation and evaluation techniques.
- Basic skills for highway design & detailing using AutoCAD and Civil3D would be beneficial.
- Good understanding of technical software such as Civil 3D, AutoTrack, and other industry standard software (including Microsoft Office applications).
- Working knowledge of Section 104, 278 and 38 adoption procedures.
- Working knowledge of DMRB and SHW for highways. Knowledge of CAP168 and UK CS-ADR-DSN for airport design would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of UK planning procedures and ability to provide technical support to secure planning approval
- Ability to secure technical approvals from highway and drainage authorities.
- Strong written and verbal communicator.
- Self-motivated team player with good people skills.
