Working in close collaboration with product experts, suppliers, research organisations, and fellow engineers at Atlas Copco, your role as a Future Platform Team Innovation Engineer will be to blend your engineering creativity, specialised knowledge, and analytical expertise with Agile and lean product development approaches to research, assess, and advocate for cutting-edge technologies and applications crucial for the success of our upcoming products and overall business. This pivotal role within R&D, as part of a newly established team with a focused and significant remit, positions you to directly impact the technological advancement and future prosperity of the company.Here’s what you’ll be doing: * Supporting the identification and critical evaluation of innovative components, technologies, and engineering methodologies for integration into the company’s product portfolio to enhance system performance and reduce development and manufacturing expenses
- Contributing to fostering a culture of sustainable development, ensuring that future products are designed with a holistic, life-cycle perspective, aligned with the company’s sustainability and circular economy objectives
- Establishing productive relationships with stakeholders, including product and portfolio management, suppliers, multidisciplinary R&D teams, and research institutes, to gather insights and requirements that will shape the development of next-generation mechatronic products
- Continuously updating your knowledge of industry trends, competitor offerings, and advancements in mechatronics, robotics, and automation to inform the development of cutting-edge joining products
- Ensuring accurate recording and documentation of development and testing activities to facilitate effective knowledge management
- Supporting the design, development, and manufacture of prototypes, validating their functionality through rigorous testing and analysis to confirm compliance with design specifications and performance criteria
- Actively participate in, and occasionally lead, innovation-generation sessions to identify breakthrough ideas and concepts for new products or enhancements to existing ones.
- Designing and implement testing methodologies to assess product performance and optimise designs.
Here are the essential qualifications and skills you need:
- Prior experience in a professional engineering setting, with particular involvement in product development
- Practical experience in relevant engineering industries and roles
- Familiarity with hands-on engineering activities (e.g., assembling equipment, configuring test rigs, conducting test activities etc.)
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering data and competently devise and apply measurement and inspection methodologies to understand unit and system performance
- Capacity to create high-quality technical reports that can effectively inform and influence stakeholders.
Desirable qualifications and skills (if not currently possessed, support will be provided):
- Experience with Solid Edge (or similar CAD applications)
- Experience problem solving with industrial control systems and communication protocols
- Electrical prototype design and assembly to support research testing
- Familiarity with engineering techniques to evaluate candidate technologies and converge on a recommendation
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0 enabling technologies
- Familiarity with agile (e.g. Scrum) and lean product development (e.g. set-based concurrent engineering) techniques, approaches, and mindset)
- Worked in an industry supplying machinery for use in high-production environments (e.g., automotive)
