Job description: Senior Business Information Analyst – Education Job descriptionSenior Business Information Analyst – Education (permanent)Location: hybrid (40% working in Sheffield office)Hours: 37The PostWe are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, highly motivated and reliable individual to join the Performance and Analysis Service (PAS) within Performance and Business Intelligence. PAS supports Children’s Services and has leads for early years, youth, social care and Building Successful Families, this post will lead on education covering areas such as attainment and progress, attendance and exclusions, and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).The post holder will lead a team on data collection and reporting that will include the completion of statutory returns such as the Special Educational Needs survey, preparation for Ofsted Area SEND inspections, and development of reports to enable Inclusion, School Effectiveness and SEND services to meet their statutory obligations and strategic priorities.This is an exciting opportunity to lead on a variety of projects all requiring a high level of analytical skills and an ability to present and communicate complex information to a variety of different audiences.

  • An interest and enthusiasm in understanding and improving outcomes for children is essential as is a willingness to work closely with colleagues Council-wide as well as in other LAs, schools, partner organisations (such as Learn Sheffield) and central government departments.
  • The post requires strong IT and analytical skills and previous experience of producing information and insight to support decision making. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of how to extract data from databases and create reports using tools such as SQL and Power BI.
  • The post will require an individual with a flair for creativity and problem solving who is able to work independently and as part of a team. Close working relationships will need to be maintained with customers to translate requirements into deliverables as well as to be proactive in championing effective and robust use of business intelligence to support continuous improvement.

About YouYou will need excellent IT literacy including knowledge of statistical analysis and an understanding of how information flows through databases, how to extract data, and how to create automated reports. You will be able to analyse, interpret and present data and have good communication skills to ensure customers understand the benefits and limitations of information produced. You will be able to build strong relationships with customers and colleagues and be confident in using data to evaluate and challenge existing practice and make suggestions for improvement. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement.
