Job Description

The successful applicant will undertake research and teaching in the Department of Communication and Media, with a focus on data science and communication. The aim of this role is to expand data science approaches in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to develop research projects which combine computational methods with communication and media studies.

Preference will be given to applicants whose research and teaching focuses on the use of computational techniques for the analysis of language, images and videos in online and social media platforms. The post will strengthen the Department’s teaching in these areas by expanding existing modules and introducing new approaches which reflect the candidate’s specific research expertise in media and data science, integrated with critical approaches in the social sciences and humanities. The post will strengthen interdisciplinary research undertaken in the Department.

We are looking to appoint the most appropriate candidate within the Grade 7/8 range, according to experience, ability, and interview performance. The position is intended to be permanent subject to satisfactory performance. Candidates in their first academic post will be subject to a probationary period of 3 years in the first instance.

You should have a PhD in a relevant area for this post.
