Lecturer in Media and Culture

Job Description

The University of Liverpool seeks to appoint a permanent, full-time Lecturer in Media and Culture.

You will undertake research and teaching in the Department of Communication and Media, with a focus on media and culture. The aim of this role is to expand cultural studies approaches to the study of communication and media in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to develop research projects in these areas.

Preference will be given to applicants whose research and teaching focuses on visual culture, cultural memory studies, materialist or anthropological approaches to media and culture, or media and cultural theory. The post will strengthen the Department’s teaching in these areas by expanding existing modules and introducing new approaches which reflect the candidate’s specific research expertise in media and culture, integrated more generally with critical approaches in the humanities and social sciences. The post will strengthen interdisciplinary research undertaken in the Department.

We are looking to appoint the most appropriate candidate within the Grade 7/8 range, according to experience, ability, and interview performance. The position is intended to be permanent subject to satisfactory performance. Candidates in their first academic post will be subject to a probationary period of 3 years in the first instance.

The University of Liverpool is committed to enhancing workforce diversity. We actively seek to attract, develop, and retain colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We welcome applications from all genders/gender identities, Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, individuals living with a disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
