The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts (MCPA) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Lecturer in Digital Media. The primary purpose of this role is to work collaboratively with an established team of academics to support the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, enhancing our portfolio of modules focused on digital media production and emerging technologies.

The successful candidate will combine some theoretical knowledge of the film and media industries with up-to-date practical skills relevant to the creation of media content. They will be passionate about supporting others to develop new knowledge and skills, as well as being an outstanding communicator and strong team player. The post holder will be expected to contribute to a range of teaching, pastoral, and administrative activities across the division and should be adaptable and open to teaching across a range of modules and interdisciplinary programmes.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area, along with relevant professional experience of media production and connections to industry networks. We encourage applicants to include links to their previous professional work as part of their application.  For appointment at Assistant Lecturer level, you do not need to have had specific prior experience of teaching, but you must be passionate about the student experience and willing to engage in the necessary professional development to gain your Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

While applicants would require knowledge and understanding of the wider field of media and communications, they would be expected to provide the Division with specific knowledge and practical expertise regarding contemporary digital media practices.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals who can offer expertise in any of the following areas: motion graphics design, graphics design, data visualisation, web design, artificial intelligence, virtual production, VFX, 3D animation, and other emerging and immersive creative technologies within the film, media or communication industries. Knowledge of software such as Adobe Creative Cloud’s applications (i.e., Premiere Pro and Audition), Da Vinci Resolve and Unreal Engine is also desirable.

Although the modules which the post holder will contribute to will change from year to year, initially they would be part of the teaching team on some of the following undergraduate modules: Modernity on Screen, Analysing Stories, Media and Creative Industries, Creative Practice: Researching Documentary, Creative Practice: Fiction Filmmaking, Video Essay.

The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts offers a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in areas such as Drama, Arts Management, Acting, Costume, Strategic and Political Communications, Film, Media, Digital Marketing and Public Relations. The Division also has several successful collaborations with other organisations delivering QMU validated degree programmes.

This role does not meet the minimum requirements set by UKVI to enable sponsorship of migrant workers. Therefore, we cannot progress applications from candidates who require sponsorship to work in the UK.
