Research Associate in URBAN RETROFIT at University of Sheffield

Are you passionate about the challenges of planning and developing more sustainable cities? We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated social scientist to make a leading contribution to the 38-month long ESRC-funded project RETROFIT UK, exploring how towns and cities can be reshaped to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. 

With expertise in social research, you will be directly involved in designing and conducting research, analysing data, and disseminating findings to a range of audiences. We will benefit from your ability to think critically and problem-solve to ensure the success of a multi-city programme of research. With a track-record of high-quality research in planning, geography, urban studies or a related field, excellent communication skills will enable you to collaborate effectively with the project team across five leading UK Universities (Glasgow, Sheffield, Cardiff, Ulster and the University of the West of England). You will also work with planning, property and community stakeholders to coproduce knowledge that supports the transition to net-zero. The role will involve some travel across the UK to conduct fieldwork. 

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will play a pivotal role in driving our research forward so that we can shape the future of urban sustainability research together. The project is connected to the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence and you will work closely with co-investigators Dr Sarah Payne and Dr Andy Inch. We will ensure you benefit from the wider career development opportunities available at the School of Geography and Planning, a globally recognised centre of excellence in urban studies that is home to a scholarly community dedicated to research excellence and impact. A parallel Research Associate position is also being advertised at the University of Glasgow and we encourage interested candidates to apply for both roles.
