Lecturer in Publishing (Education and Scholarship) at University of Exeter

Job Description

This part-time (0.5 FTE) post is available from January 2026 until 30 July 2027, based within the department of English and Creative Writing.

The role

You will support the delivery of the English and Creative Writing Department’s Publishing MA. This programme places particular emphasis on cultivating excellence through industry connections, research, and the acquisition of professional skills. In addition, it is a programme committed to making positive change in the industry: embedding issues concerning access and representation through the curriculum, moving the study of global publishing practices beyond Euro-American models, and reinforcing Exeter’s position as a UNESCO City of Literature and a growing hub for literary and creative industries in the South West.

You will be expected to convene and/or teach a range of modules associated with this postgraduate programme, which will likely include Publishing and Production (EASM193) and the Publishing Work Placement module (EASM178). You may also be asked to contribute from a publishing perspective to the delivery of undergraduate modules that relate to the creative industries.

The post will include practice-based teaching, supervising student projects and work placements, managing existing programme relationships and developing partnerships with publishing contacts. You will also contribute to attracting new students to study and gain knowledge of publishing through the MA Publishing programme.

About you

You will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, as demonstrated by a PhD (obtained or nearing completion) or equivalent experience in publishing, to develop teaching programmes and teach and support learning
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Participate in and develop external networks: for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities
  • Have evidence of excellent teaching, identified by peer review, and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond your own teaching
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this
