The discipline area is located in the University’s STEM annex in Markeaton Street, where staff offices and lab facilities are co-located. Key investments in the last few years include dedicated intelligent instrumentation and smart sensor technologies, robotics, renewable energy, power engineering and advanced materials and manufacturing. The discipline area is actively engaged in knowledge exchange projects and has an active applied research agenda.  

About the Role

The discipline of Built Environment is well placed to respond to the University’s zero carbon strategic objective. With expertise in Civil Engineering, Construction and Quantity Surveying, the discipline plays a pivotal role in creating and exchanging knowledge with key industry in the field.

As a Lecturer, you will provide subject expertise in Quantity Surveying and Construction, and will contribute to wider Built Environment subject areas, for a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

We are seeking an innovative academic to develop and deliver a dynamic range of learning materials that will ensure high-quality, accessible learning experiences which align with the University’s strategic objectives, placing employability and real-world learning at the core of the curriculum.

In addition, you will engage in research that influences cutting-edge practice, enhances research-led teaching, and contributes to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). As the programme leader for the Quantity Surveying and Construction Management programme, you will also spearhead the development of new degree apprenticeship programmes in these fields.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in higher education and expertise in delivering engaging and inspiring learning experiences. You will have demonstrable experience within your discipline, contributing to the development of new knowledge in the field.

A strong understanding of the contemporary construction industry, particularly quantity surveying practices, is required, with an emphasis on the progressive digitisation of the industry.

Experience working with Degree Apprenticeships, whether in industry or academia, would be desirable, along with a proven track record in teaching, leading, or developing degree apprenticeship courses.
