Visiting Lecturer, Built Environment at University of Roehampton

Job Description

The University of Roehampton is seeking to appoint Visiting Lecturer to join our SETEC team to teach on a broad range of undergraduate modules in any one, or a number, of the following areas:

L4 Design and Construction Economics (QS)

  • Basic economic principles, economics of design and construction, property development stages, cost information, whole life costs, new rules of measurement, CostX, cost estimating, roles of the QS

L5 Estimating, Tendering and Commercial Management (CM)

  • Estimating, CostX, BOQ, software applications, tendering, team roles, tender submissions, financial information management, value engineering

L5 Soil Mechanics (CE)

  • Site investigation and surveys, soil sampling, investigation reports, lab testing of soils, shear strength, permeability, plasticity, particle size distribution, effective stress, bearing capacity, settlement

L4 Law for Surveyors (BS/QS)

  • Democratic process, the English legal system, sources of law, professional conduct, the law of contract and tort, town and country planning, building regulations, health and safety legislation, sustainability legislation

L5 Fluid Mechanics (CE)

Statics, dynamics, fluid flow, laminar and turbulent flow, dimensional analysis, hydraulic modelling, open channel flow, Bernoulli equation, steady and unsteady flow in pipes

L5 Procurement, Contract Administration and Professional Development (CM/AT)

  • Procurement strategies and client requirements, types of procurement, 4D planning, ICT, contract administration, standard forms of contract, progression and completion, payments and variations, dispute resolution

The appointment will involve leading, preparation, delivery and marking the modules and they are 30-credit modules which will require a total of 60 hours of teaching contact. For each module, and accounting for preparation, delivery and marking, there is up to 150 hours available.

We encourage a blended learning approach to teaching, combining traditional lectures, seminars, practical sessions, and student-led discussions. We ensure our curriculum supports good student outcomes through engagement with employability and skill-led experiential learning. We also support students by providing activities and material that extend beyond scheduled contact time.

The successful applicant will have experience in many of the blended teaching approaches listed above, as well as with supporting students, and marking assessments, at an undergraduate level. Industry experience is desirable as is experience with online learning environments. We are seeking individuals who are student-focused can demonstrate excellent interpersonal and analytical skills and can work flexibly.

The rate of pay for Visiting Lecturers is £56.26/hour. This rate includes: contact time, preparation, marking, and annual leave.
