Job description: Job Description Summary The Welding Engineering ( also Joining & Heat Treat) Sub-Section Manager will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and company objectives while leading a diverse team to provide special processes capability and support for Aviation to meet the FAA (14CFR Part 43 and 145) and DCMA requirements. This operational role includes driving strategic utilization of resources to develop/execute joining processes & technology to best satisfy the needs of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and implement team charter to align team to key priorities of the business.
- Responsible for leading a team in establishing, validating, and controlling GE Aviation Special Processes to meet the FAA (14CFR Part 43 and 145) and DCMA requirements in welding, brazing, and heat treatment.
- Provide joining and heat treat special process expertise including GTAW, EBW, LBW, IW TFW, RW, Torch Braze, Vacuum Brazing, and other joining process as needed.
- Work closely with Engineering on NPI programs towards implementation of APQP (AS9145) incorporating design for manufacturability, process capability inputs, manufacturing process failure modes evaluation, process flow and planning, risk mitigation, and process controls to meet requirements.
- Drive collaboration across the business with regards to identification, development, maturation, and industrialization of new manufacturing technology. Provide Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) process leadership.
- Collaborating with the product lines, shops, and suppliers, actively improve process capability (zero defect culture) of constraining processes to deliver higher first time yields and throughput.
- Hire, build, and grow Special Process Technology leaders and Certifying Agents by providing technical guidance, coaching, and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, and technicians.
- Demonstrate project management skills. Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical and program requirements, schedules, and contract commitments. Effectively communicate recommendations through the analysis and presentation of technical data using reports, records, and letters.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Welding, Materials Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Production Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering and/or manufacturing position
- Experience in one or more special processes involving process/quality control.
- Project Management experience coordinating activities across large departments.
- Ability to work with global, distributed teams to achieve results
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

Desired Characteristics
- Prior experience in Aviation manufacturing processes and materials, Quality Systems and/or component manufacturing.
- Masters degree in Welding, Materials Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Production Engineering.
- People leadership experience and/or Black belt.
- Strategic thinker with domain expertise; Problem solving and resolution.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage large projects and lead teams. Track record of delivering results on programs.
- Strong Supply Chain and Engineering network.
