Fixed term: one year with potential to renew for second year

This role would suit someone completing their FY2 and wanting to go onto a paid FY3 to broaden their experience and help with deciding best route you would like your career to take. The role will give someone some great experience within teaching too as well as potential to be fully supported to undertake a funded Pg.Cert. in Medical Education. The charity will also help and support you in your application to move into your core training.

You will work with some industry experts within psychiatry as well as teaching who are passionate about passing on their knowledge and developing others, whilst working in the newly refurbished academic centre based in over 150 acres of beautiful woodlands consisting of a gym, swimming pool, café, garden centre as well as other great facilities all open and free to access for staff.

The Role and Person

Applications are invited for posts of Clinical Teaching Fellow in Medical Education. These unique posts provide rich opportunities to develop interests and expertise in medical education whilst broadening clinical experience in a specialist, mental health setting.

In the coming year, the Academic Department will be supporting more than 500 student placements, across medicine, nursing, health and social care. There will be considerable opportunities for clinical teaching and educational activity.

The Clinical Teaching Fellowships are bespoke posts, tailored to interests and career intentions:

Four sessions are protected for educational activity where you will get involved in facilitating the education experience of third year students from the University of Buckingham which involves preparing and teaching educational workshops, assessing student’s case presentations and offering pastoral support to students. Also opportunities for teaching Cambridge Medical students.

Six sessions for clinical activity (with regular, consistent supervision for both elements) as a Ward Doctor on various wards based at St Andrews Northampton site. Your experience here will be similar to a core trainee and will help you gain some valuable experience working within the different wards which will help you in your future career.

You will be actively involved in supporting medical student placements. One day per week will focus on clinical teaching with students on the wards. The second day will be focused on facilitating small group workshop type sessions in the Academic Department. Study leave will be available for contact days for the Pg.Cert course.
