This is a fantastic opportunity to join our large Hull bakery as our Zone 1 Manager (Production Manager – Food Manufacturing)

Who are we looking for?

Reporting to the Site Director, you will take ownership of Zone 1 (our Hull bakery is split into 3 zones), specialising in celebration cakes for all the major food retailers.

Working closely with the Zone Technical Manager and Zone Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of this £50 million turnover production zone, with 3 direct reports and a wider team of circa 400 (depending on agency labour). In addition, you will liaise with our Commercial and NPD teams to ensure the smooth and effective transition of new products into the bakery.

Measured against labour and material cost control, you will ensure the zone performs effectively and profitably with a focus on quality and efficiency.

Previous food manufacturing experience is essential for this role; however, we are open-minded as to where this experience has been gained. You will also have experience in a production & people management position. You may be a Senior Shift Manager looking to make a step up, or current Production Manager/Manufacturing Manager.

The role of a Zone Manager (Production Manager – Food Manufacturing)

· Manage risk to create a safe working environment in the factory and manage its improvement.

· Accountable for ensuring GMP compliance throughout the factory.

· Attends S&OP meetings weekly and contributes from the operations perspective to the production forecasting, agrees the weekly schedule and is accountable for its fulfilment.

· Works with Supply Chain to ensure material availability.

· Manage and establish control of component usage, direct labour, utility consumption and manufacturing consumables to budget level.

· Measure any variances from standard levels, explain the variance and deliver plans of action to improve performance to the target level.

· Accountable for ensuring the continuity of Daily Rituals and Reviews and coaching the team on compliance.

· Measure and report on factory performance explaining variances to agreed standards.

· Produce weekly and monthly reports that show progress with direct labour p/Kg and Materials usage/waste for the site.

· Expected to contribute to capex ideas, scoping and execution.

· Initiate, lead and deliver continuous improvement projects, using team members and appropriate specialist support staff.

· Manage teams’ performance, conduct and development. Review their progress against agreed objectives regularly. Ensure that skills matrixes are accurate and current, and develop a succession plan for the team.
