Southampton Business School (SBS) is placed at the centre of the University of Southampton, a top 100 University in the world and a top 20 UK university in both the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024. SBS hosts a vibrant and diverse community of scholars and students. It has grown substantially in breadth and size in the recent years, covering all core business and management disciplines via six Departments: Accounting, Banking and Finance, Decision Analytics and Risk, Digital and Data-Driven Marketing, Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour, and Strategy Innovation and Entrepreneurship. SBS academics conduct cutting edge research and publish consistently in world-class journals. Research activity within SBS is coordinated through ten multidisciplinary research centres. The longest established research centres is the Centre for Operational Research, Management Sciences and Information Systems (CORMSIS), which ranks 39th (QS) in the world. Building on its continued success, SBS is now ranked in the top quartile of the research-intensive business schools in the UK, with a strong research environment which is ranked 12th (REF2021) in the UK. The School has an ambitious growth plan, which includes investments in people and relocation to a state of art business building.

Building on this success, in July 2022, the School secured the 5-year re-accreditation of the MBA programme which is ranked 13th in the UK (QS data) and its AACSB accreditation was recently re-extended for another full period of 5 years. A member of the UNPRM, the school was recently awarded the CABS Small Business Charter in recognition of the SBS’ world-class support to students and local businesses, including the development of student entrepreneurial skills and the support to the development of SMEs and the regional economy and social opportunities for business. The Department of Decision Analytics and Risk is a large group of highly research active staff and PhD students. This department brings together internationally renowned academics who undertake research into, and teach, a wide range of areas including Management Science, Risk, Operations and Project Management, Knowledge Management and Information Systems, and has internationally-renowned expertise in the specific areas of risk/project/supply chain management, Fintech and health care. The department boasts extensive links with industry offering a number of industrial placement projects per year to students. The Department is supported by four research centres: Centre of Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems (CORMSIS), Centre for Risk Research (CRR), Advanced Project Management Research Centre and Product Returns Research Group, where staff are actively engaged in cross-disciplinary research.

Head of the Centre of Healthcare Analytics

We seek to appoint a Professorial Fellow to lead the enterprise activities and research programmes in the Centre for Healthcare Analytics within the University of Southampton Business School. The academics and researchers of the Centre for Healthcare Analytics develop novel mathematical, simulation and analytical tools to address challenges faced by the Healthcare industry and optimise its operation.

CHA works in close partnership with the Centre for Operational Research, Management Sciences and Information Systems (CORMSIS) within the University of Southampton Business School which in the latest (Feb 2023) QS World University Rankings, CORMSIS was ranked 7th in the UK and 39th in the world. In the next phase of the development of the Centre for Healthcare Analytics, we are looking to develop data-driven decision-making support tools that can be operationalised by public and private healthcare institutes. In addition to commercialisation of outputs, the Centre is looking to develop Executive and Management Science education packages targeted at healthcare professionals.

The Head of the Centre for Healthcare Analytics will develop and implement strategies to increase the research portfolio of the Centre for Healthcare Analytics. You will have experience of managing large research teams to develop products that meet customer expectations. You are expected to have a track record in healthcare and to understand the industry well. You will also have experience of leading large research grant applications. You will have the vision and ability to lead technology development from idea generation to delivery and regulation.

This role is a full-time position working for the Southampton Business School within the Department of Decision Analytics and Risk (DAR). A fractional appointment of 0.80FTE may also be considered.
