Assistant Designer – Brands

We have a really exciting opportunity for an Assistant designer to join the Licensing Fashion Brands team at Next to work on our branded clothing ranges within Childrenswear.

An excellent team player with great attention to detail, you’ll work alongside the designers, buyers and merchandisers whilst reacting to sales and market information.

From researching the latest trends and presenting concepts you’ll work hard to produce elevated product that reflect the brands ‘DNA’ and handwriting. This would be a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, self motivated assistant designer who has previous experience working at pace across different supply bases/product categories.

What will you be doing?

  • Researching, interpreting and communicating the latest design trends, techniques, colours, trims and fabric developments.
  • Working closely with the team to create innovative, commercial and elevated designs- liaising closely with our factories and suppliers
  • Building successful team relationships, instilling confidence and trust in our partnerships
  • Working collaboratively with a range of specialist functions such as Product Technology and Sourcing to develop the collections in line with the critical path.
  • Creating thorough and accurate Tech Packs for factories.
  • Helping manage the day-to-day organisation/admin tasks within the design team.

What you’ll have:

  • Great understanding of supply bases, design and trims, and know how to create thorough technical design packs with an understanding of price points.
  • Attention to detail and an adaptable and versatile handwriting, with the ability to design across a variety of brand handwritings, product categories and age ranges across boys and girlswear.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a comprehensive understanding of garment construction, fit and fabrics.
  • An adaptable handwriting/resilience to change-you’ll thrive on working in a fast paced environment with a real passion and drive for product.
  • A good level of experience and be proficient in creating designs and tech packs using Adobe creative suite-from initial trend concepts to final tech packs.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Enthusiastic attitude and team player.

Location:

  • London with travel to another office approx 3 days a week
