Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.

The HR Manager will be based at our Luton manufacturing site supporting our Defence business line as part of our global functions. The Human Resources Manager will play a key role in our Luton site leadership team, acting as a Business Partner by driving the effective execution of HR processes at the plant and reporting to the Senior VP HR Defence with a dotted line into the Site Director. The HR Manager will be responsible for talent management, performance management and employee engagement with the goal of developing a workforce that achieves excellence in driving business results and our cultural principles. The role will include hybrid management of transactional HR duties such as payroll and employee data changes. The core operational hours of our Luton site are: 07:30 to 16:30 Monday to Thursday, 07:30 to 12:30 Friday.

Job Responsibilities

  • Business partner the Site Director and leadership team contributing to the site, regional and local HR Strategy
  • Ensure a robust Talent Review processes to meet current and future business needs
  • Champion and drive employee engagement improvement by coaching and supporting leaders and teams through EngageMe
  • Develop effective working relations with Trade Unions and Employee Representatives to benefit both the Company and the workforce
  • Lead, coach and manage the performance and development of a team members
  • Proactively contribute to the future development of the Regional Shared Services
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the HR systems and processes to ensure efficient execution
  • Actively promote and demonstrate behaviours in line with the culture principles
  • Develop a strong internal and external network identifying and managing key stakeholders
  • Develop a credible relationship with the site leadership team ensuring you can influence effectively and uphold company values as well as good HR practice
  • Ensure legal compliance and mitigate risk related to existing company policies and location-specific laws/regulations and governing employment practices
  • Establish effective relationships with members of the broader HR community ensuring that centrally developed products and initiatives meet the requirements of the business and that functional needs are clearly communicated to those responsible for delivering them
  • Champion change ensuring that organisational design/development solutions drive business transformation and change

How You’ll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
Essential:

  • CIPD Level 7 qualification, relevant degree or qualified by experience
  • Extensive operational HR experience gained from operating within a Lean manufacturing environment or similar
  • Significant experience gained from an operational HR Manager role
  • Experience of working in a matrixed organisation
  • Experience of managing and developing experienced HR team members
  • Experience of implementing, driving and fostering positive employee relations with Trade Unions
  • Experience of managing and delivering organisational change
  • Experience of sensitively and appropriately establishing and managing a variety of stakeholder relationships
  • Expert knowledge of UK employment law and HR practices

Desirable:

  • A relevant training or coaching qualification
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • Project management experience
