The Role and Department

The Community Liaison Manager is a member of the PVC Colleges & Student Experience Office, reporting directly to the Senior Manager Community Relations & Housing. The office is part of the Colleges & Student Experience Division and works to support the varied portfolio of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Colleges and Student Experience

The primary purpose of the role of Community Liaison Manager is to develop and maintain excellent community relations between the University, our students, and those who work and live in Durham City. The primary areas of focus are: anti-social noise, waste and recycling, public and river safety, off-campus parking, crime prevention and security, and private-rented sector student housing.

The Community Liaison Manager ensures the effective functioning of the Community Response Team and Service Level Agreement with Durham County Council’s Nuisance Action Team. They also manage the Student Community Warden service, and the practical implementation of the Livers Out Code of Conduct, including liaison with Colleges in escalating matters as part of the Non-Academic Misconduct Procedure.!

To fulfil this purpose the post holder:

  • Will be a recognised service specialist in handling matters related to community relations and external stakeholder liaison, particularly with the public sector.;
  • Facilitates partnership working on matters related to community relations both within the University, and between the University and the Students’ Union, Local Authority, Emergency Services, and other key external stakeholders;
  • Coordinates multi-agency responses, campaigns and initiatives to address local issues in areas where students ‘live out’ in the wider Durham community;
  • Takes a major role in the implementation and / or monitoring of internal and external policy and procedures that positively impact on community relations, and develops these in liaison with internal and external stakeholders;
