The Role

This is an important and exciting time for OIEG as we develop and grow the University Partnerships division.

As part of our development, we are increasing capacity and support from our central Academic Affairs team. This team supports the division and the various embedded colleges, pathway colleges and potential branch campus and TNE sites though academic development (curriculum), academic quality, wide-ranging and dynamic support with colleagues in the Student Enhancement Team (academic skills/mathematics; employability; pastoral and welfare) as well as staff development.

We are now at an exciting stage where we are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Digital Learning Content Manager to set up, develop and manage a new VLE (Moodle) for multiple projects.

The role will be primarily focused on setting up and running the Moodle VLE to support a wide range of our projects and needs ad working with various other VLEs in the local colleges (including Blackboard and Canvas). This includes student-facing programmes of learning, staff development resources (inductions, L&T excellent practice, etc.), employability resources, digital video content and activities to enhance academic skills among many others.

The person we are seeking needs to be comfortable working with different stakeholders and be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. They will join a supportive, creative, positive and skilled team and play a key role in our ambitious growth within the team, division and OIEG.

The post holder will have overall responsibility for developing and managing the content on the VLE as well and ensuring they support the range of projects within the AA team. The role is ideally suited to someone who has worked in an education setting or is at least familiar with international and higher education settings. The postholder needs to develop streamlined and supportive approaches to gather the content from staff and then produce and maintain the digital content.

Main duties and responsibilities

Design and Development

  • Lead the design and development of online learning by setting up Moodle programme and module sites with oversight from the Director of Learning, Teaching & Academic Affairs and within the pedagogical parameters of: highly engaging, student -centred, encouraging participation, portability to multiple devices; gamification, and task-based learning.
  • Work in collaboration with staff to take analogue learning tasks or raw materials (i.e. Word/PP based) and use appropriate digital learning tools to make engaging.
  • To fully support the academic delivery of our digital projects in line with our digital learning design approach to a consistently high quality. Design, develop, maintain and evaluate digital education solutions which meet the needs of staff and students using a variety of tools suitable for Moodle.
  • Identify and implement learning tools that support international students and staff to become autonomous learners (study planners, reflection tools, clear programme schedules, etc.)
  • Support the implementation of online assessment including student submission of coursework with Turnitin and electronic feedback mechanisms.
  • Keep up to date with current research/trends/developments in the field.
  • Hold regular briefings / consultations with each of the key project stakeholders.
  • To advise on learning tools for first phase of development and future development.
  • To evaluate performance and make suggestions for improvement, working with the key stakeholders / project leads

Staff Training.

  • Provide high-level support, guidance and training in the use and implementation of the Moodle VLE and associated learning tools.
  • Work with academic staff, assisting and advising on appropriate strategies and educational approaches for learning content development.
  • Collaborate with others to inform/develop training and support documentation and resources (e.g., video tutorials) to support staff and students in the use of educational technologies.

Relationship management

  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Director of Learning, Teaching & Academic Affairs, the AA team and other central OIEG stakeholders.
  • Build strong working relationships with the college teams, including College Directors, Academic Directors, Heads of Department and teaching staff.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key university partners as appropriate.

General

  • Participate in and support any reviews or audits including QAA, UKVI, etc.
  • Provide regular reports/updates to the Director of Learning, Teaching & Academic Affairs
  • Attend meetings and participate at boards
  • Travel to an OIEG site such as a college or office to support with business needs
  • Any other duties linked to the remit of the role allocated by the Director of Learning, Teaching & Academic Affairs

  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS check

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree and/or master’s degree
  • A professional qualification / membership in digital learning design (or equivalent) (Desirable)
  • Advance HE fellowship (or the willingness to obtain) (Desirable)
  • A teaching qualification (Desirable)

Experience and knowledge

  • Experience of digital learning content design
  • Specifically, experience and knowledge of Moodle and applications to enhance content such as video (and editing tools), H5P, etc. including how to build courses and use a streamlined template system to enable content provided to be realised on the VLE
  • Understanding of higher education and international student settings/context
  • Knowledge of Ms Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams
  • Experience of digital learning content design in education settings (Desirable)
  • Understanding of student satisfaction and delivering services to meet requirements (Desirable)

The process will involve 2 parts to focus on different aspects of the role – all interviews are online via Teams, lasting 1-1.5 hrs each:

  • Interview 1: Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th February (will include a review of the pre-interview task)
  • Interview 2: Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th March
