The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Team, based in the Human Resources Directorate, exist as technical experts to support and deliver this vision with specific regard for the diverse needs of our workforce.
Job purpose
The EDI Officer roles have dual responsibility:
- Supporting the delivery of specialist activity linked to the University’s People, Culture and Inclusion Enabling Plan.
- Providing technical expertise and delivery to a partnered area of the university.

Working closely with relevant colleagues in the partnered area, including the EDI/PCI Academic Lead and committees, the Officer will take responsibility for delivery of a programme of activity (in keeping with our PCI Enabling Plan and local EDI priorities) to foster a culture of inclusion. This will be an important role in the development and maintenance of external EDI accreditation (Athena Swan) and will support staff in a variety of roles (Academic and Professional Services) to engage with the framework.
The role will form part of the HR EDI Team and will work in a mutually supportive team of expert practitioners to realise Queen Mary’s PCI Enabling Plan and vision for EDI. This role is an opportunity to build and broaden existing experience around Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (in Higher Education).
The dual nature of this role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to university strategic priorities at both the organisation-wide level and locally within a faculty or directorates.

Our reformer heritage informs our conviction that great ideas can and should come from anywhere. It’s an approach that has brought results across the globe, from the communities of east London to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
