Job Description

The Faculty of Science and Engineering at University of Plymouth seeks a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our purchasing and stores service within the School of Biological and Marine Sciences (SoBMS) and School of Biomedical Sciences (SoBS).  As a Purchasing and Stores Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of these critical services, supporting both teaching and research activities.

Embedded within a collaborative team under the guidance of the Technical Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all aspects of purchasing, stock control, and stores management for SoBMS and SoBS
  • Providing high-quality support to staff and students, ensuring timely and efficient procurement of goods and materials
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and implementing effective stock control measures
  • Understanding of laboratory health and safety protocols, including COSHH and Risk Assessments
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to maintain strong relationships and optimize procurement processes

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • A formal qualification in a science-related subject area, such as an apprenticeship, NVQ3, or A-Levels
  • Willingness to gain familiarity with reagents, chemicals and scientific consumables in order to better coordinate stores
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and experience with Agresso or similar databases
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • A customer-centric approach, ensuring prompt and courteous service to all stakeholders

  • A team player with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Adaptable and resourceful, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Committed to providing exceptional customer service and maintaining positive relationships
  • Ability to manage a store, manual handling of stocks and provide a physical presence on site

This is a part-time, permanent position, working 14.8 hours a week.
