Professor in Finance at Technical University of Denmark
Job Description
DTU invites applications for a position as a full professorship in Finance. The professorship is affiliated with DTU’s Department of Technology, Management and Economics in the Division for Climate and Energy Policy. The expected start date is during the fall of 2024, but we are flexible on the start date.
The division is an interdisciplinary research unit addressing the societal aspects of the green transition and key policies to support it. We offer an excellent research environment with international staff, postdocs, and PhD students.
We deliver research-based insights to policymakers and industry professionals on climate mitigation, adaptation, and pathways for reducing carbon emissions and damage costs from climate change. Our research is rooted in energy and climate economics, and we use energy and climate models and rich data from micro to macro levels.
The transition to a low-carbon, more resource-efficient and sustainable economy depends on financial systems and strategies supporting sustainable growth. Responsible investments are needed, where environmental, social, and governance considerations are taken into account to support long-term investments in sustainable economic activities and projects. Moreover, climate change imposes financial risks on capital markets, businesses and the financial sector, which must be addressed in the design of energy and climate policies.
With this position, the department wants to strengthen the research within finance and is looking for candidates with experience in some of the following research areas:
- Sustainable finance
- Corporate finance and financial risk management
- Capital markets with climate risks
- Energy and commodity finance
- Business performance and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) scoring
- Green assets and green bonds
Responsibilities and qualifications
We seek a professor, who can build up a strong research team to deliver decision support to businesses and policymakers on some of the research areas mentioned above. A core area of research will be identifying financial activities, strategies, and instruments that link financial decisions to environmental performance and climate-related risks to align financial decisions with sustainability objectives.
We expect the candidate to exhibit academic leadership, attract grants, and build a fruitful environment based on the professorship.
You will bring the following:
- A background in Financial Economics, Financial Engineering or similar
- PhD in Finance (Financial Economics, Engineering or equivalent)
- Strong publication record in Finance and preferably Energy Finance
- Expertise in some of the research areas mentioned above.
- Knowledge of new theories and a mastery of recent quantitative methods
- Experience in teaching corporate and sustainable finance
- Good teaching evaluations
- Good external funding track
- A solid international stakeholder network within and beyond academia
- An ambition to push boundaries and define future research agendas.
You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at e.g. BEng, BSc, MSc., PhD and executive level.
DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
