Job Description

The Opportunity: 

The School of Divinity seeks to appoint a Professor in any area of Religion, Society and Ethics Theology, Philosophy and Ethics, contributing to its programme of research, knowledge exchange/impact, teaching and administration. The postholder will be expected to take a leading role in the strategic growth of the School, and possess the flexibility and imagination to collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines.  

It is expected that the incoming Professor will assume a leading role, not only in teaching and research, but provide distinct leadership in public engagement and impact. 

The post holder will be expected to lead the work of the School in the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) and build a futures agenda for research and teaching in religion 

Your skills and attributes for success:  

  • An outstanding academic profile with a PhD in a relevant field, with an established track record of internationally excellent research in any field of Religion, Society and Ethics. 
  • Extensive experience of teaching in relevant discipline at undergraduate and postgraduate levels 
  • Experience of mentoring and developing colleagues at various career stages 
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate people, to manage resources, and willingness to contribute to the running of the School of Divinity and the EFI. 
  • Proven commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
