Job Description

Applications are invited for an experienced Configuration Manager for the HARMONI instrument project, an international collaboration to design and build the first light spectrograph for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).

The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration 36 months, with the possibility of extension for a further  3 years subject to funding.

HARMONI is a new astronomical instrument currently being designed and built for the worlds largest telescope – the 39 m ELT. It will revolutionise astronomical observations of objects across our Universe, from the most distant galaxies to the nearest stars, thanks to its unique combination of exquisite spatial resolution and superb sensitivity.

The successful candidate will lead the Configuration Management processes for the entire project, delivered by a consortium of eight partner institutes in the U.K., France, Spain, and the U.S.A. Oxford hosts the project’s document repository, and is responsible for coordinating Configuration Management. This is a key role in enabling a high-quality instrument and in turn high-quality science.

Applicants should possess substantial previous experience with, and be skilled in Configuration Management for a large engineering / scientific research project. They should have experience of managing Change Control processes.

An appropriate qualification in Configuration Management will be an advantage, as will experience with Microsoft Sharepoint management and configuration.

The applicant should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. They should work well in a large international team environment.

The role is project focussed, and there is no requirement to participate in teaching or other academic duties.
