As a part of our long-term growth plans, we now have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Senior Leadership Team, based at our global headquarters in Exeter.
We are looking for someone who is hands on, passionate, energetic, and a proven developer and leader of engineering teams and capabilities, who will work closely with customers, and our sales and operations teams around the globe.
Group Head of Engineering
This role sits as a member of the global Senior Leadership Team, with strategic and tactical responsibility for :-
- new product innovation and design for manufacture
- building Engineering team capabilities,
- driving engineering excellence
- delivering a solid and competitive pipeline of new products
- raising the credibility of Goodridge as an innovative engineered solutions partner with our customers.
You will lead a truly global team with engineering functions in the UK, USA, Mexico, Germany and Spain.
The scope of the role can be broken down into 5 pillars :-
- Leadership – development of the team and best practices
- Innovation – development and management of the technology strategy and product development roadmap
- Design for manufacture – maximising efficiencies of manufacturing capability, ensuring that all design validation meets the required standards
- Profitability – working closely with the Sales and Contracts teams to ensure that product costings are kept accurate
- Product Lifecycle Change Process – working closely with the Programme Management Team to ensure successful product lifecycle changes
What are we looking for in our group Head of Engineering ?
- A degree level qualification is essential. This should be in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Motorsport Engineering or very similar.
- Chartered Engineer status is very much preferred.
- A solid understanding of fluid transfer systems or hydraulics and of the components that make up those systems. This could be in any industry sector including automotive, aerospace, rail etc.
- A drive to become a trusted partner to customers, working alongside their engineering teams to provide solutions.
- First class people management skills, a natural leader and mentor, inspirational.
- Experience of specialist markets and low volume production is preferred.
- Customer facing, happy at industry and customer events.
- Experience of working with third party suppliers and partners, including assessing their ability to meet stringent requirements of quality, compliance etc.
- CAD literate, proficient with Solidworks. Abilities or experience with Catia is advantageous.
- Experience of working to recognised industry standards eg IATF 16949.
- Able to travel including internationally.
- Full UK driving licence.

- Basic salary £70,000-£80,000 negotiable.
- Bonus scheme which should pay between 20% and 40% of salary.
