Contract Type: Maternity Cover – 15th April 2024 until 2nd March 2025
Working Pattern: 42 hours average per week working over 12 hour rotating shifts.
The rotation is made up of 4 x 12 hour shifts one week, followed by 3 x 12 hour shifts the next.
As Assistant Security Shift Supervisor you will be responsible to the Security Shift Supervisor, who in turn reports directly to the Deputy Security Operations Managers for all matters relating to the safety and security of university staff, students, visitors, grounds, and property within the University portfolio.
Security Operations are a customer focused 24/7 operation and as such you will work 12 hour rotating shifts, which includes nights. Normal duties will be those of a Security Control Officer.
When performing control room duties, you will be acting as the main point of contact and will be responsible for coordinating the control room’s response for security issues and major incidents. Other Control Room duties include the monitoring of fire alarms, CCTV and other control systems. You will be required to write and submit safety and security reports and maintain a record of all incidents. You will work at all times in accordance with departmental standards and procedures, providing high levels of customer care.
When performing the role of Assistant Security Shift Supervisor, you will assume increased line management and decision making responsibilities in line with those of the Security Shift Supervisor. During the short term, acting in the role, additional responsibilities will be limited to the day-to-day supervision and support to staff and liaison with key stakeholders (both during and out of hours). During protracted periods of acting in the role, increased responsibilities may also include assuming line management responsibilities for interim performance reviews and staff development as directed by the Security Operations Manager and in their absence the Deputy Security Operations Manager.
At all times you will work in accordance with service standards and procedures providing high levels of customer care. The role, in the absence of the Security Shift Supervisor, will also involve networking with other stakeholders, including attendance at relevant internal and external meetings maintaining close contact with the University dedicated policing team.
This is a demanding role requiring a high level of expertise to deal effectively with the day-to-day security responsibilities at the University, including resource allocation and informal sickness and disciplinary issues.
