Research Associate in Legacies of Enslavement at University of Cambridge
Job Description
The College invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Research Associate in Legacies of Enslavement at Trinity Hall (up to 2 days a week). The appointment will take effect from Easter Term 2024, subject to the successful candidate availability. Applications are invited from scholars with an interest and proven expertise the areas of research into historical slavery, preferably with a focus on the British experience.
In March 2023 the Trinity Hall Governing Body formed a Working Group tasked with producing a report on the Legacies of Enslavement at the College. This work follows, and is informed by, the Legacies of Enslavement project at the University of Cambridge and aims to document, as far as possible, instances in which Trinity Hall benefitted financially and otherwise from the historical slave trade and the exploitation of slave labour.
The Research Associate will conduct primary research in the College’s archives and elsewhere to identify Trinity Hall members and philanthropic donors with links to transatlantic slavery.
The Research Associate will submit their research findings to the Working Group, which will be the basis of a report to be submitted to the College’s Governing Body.

The covering letter should be addressed to the Chair of the Working Group (Dr Pedro Ramos Pinto) and describes research interests (not exceeding 1,000 words).
Shortlisting will take place by 13 March 2024.
The interview
Interviews with a recruitment panel will take place at Trinity Hall in Cambridge the week commencing on 18 March 2024.
Interviews will begin with a brief (up to 5 minute) presentation to the panel (4 members) from the applicant outlining their expertise and how it relates to the aims of the role. Further details will be provided to shortlisted candidates.
The successful candidate will start at Easter Term 2024, subject to availability.
