Role summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of Badminton England’s new 10-year strategy launched in September 2023. The role will be crucial in shaping and implementing a creative and transformational community content strategy that will be integral in engaging our existing badminton community and growing our connected audience, celebrating and promoting the badminton community and improving their quality of experience and driving additional revenues into the sport.

We are seeking to appoint an accomplished, creative content specialist. This newly developed role will proactively lead in the development and execution of the content strategy to support the growth of the sport in England. The ability to build strong relationships within the organisation and across the sport is key, alongside an up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments and innovations within the industry.

The successful candidate will have proven experience of developing creative and engaging digital content to support story-telling through our social media and digital platforms as well as experience in capturing, developing, editing, producing and delivering video content to support our community engagement strategy.

They will be crucial in building connections across the sport, shaping and implementing an engagement strategy that will grow conversations across the community and inspire more people to get involved in badminton as a player, coach, volunteer or fan.

They will also have responsibility for building and delivering a content plan that supports our ambitious strategy to engage the 1m playing badminton regularly through innovative and engaging digital content supported by a wider digital platform strategy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the development team to develop a communications and content strategy for the community game.
  • Development and execution of communication and content plans to meet the needs and objectives of internal stakeholder groups, such as the game development, safeguarding, EDI and legacy.
  • You will create and publish compelling content, driving engagement and supporting campaigns through visual story-telling.
  • You’ll bring significant and demonstrable experience in community-facing content and communications with strong experience of developing grassroots communications and marketing campaigns.
  • Responsible for proactively sourcing the stories within our badminton community to shine a light on the work we do.
  • Lead on campaign narratives for community campaigns and build comms and PR plans to ensure these stories are shared as widely as possible.
  • Conceptional development of visual social identities, unique brands, templates, one-off requests in cooperation with the marketing team.
  • Reporting in to the Head of Engagement you will help shape and execute Badminton England’s overall content and distribution strategy to maximise engagement with key audience/s.
  • Strong focus on extending our reach and driving engagement with our youth audience.
  • Work closely with the wider Marketing team, Regional Managers and our EDI Manager, as well as external production and digital marketing teams to ensure the wider business objectives are met.
  • Responsible for ensuring growth in reach and engagement across all web and social channels in order to achieve targets.
  • Develop detailed content planning, ensuring consistent storytelling across all owned channels in line with the organisation brand values and communication tools.
  • Creation of new content ideas and formats as well as the implementation of new technologies in order to establish Badminton England as a leader in digital media communications.
  • Work with sponsors to develop activation strategies to deliver contractual rights and help demonstrate clear ROI.
  • Execute event-specific content strategies and planning across major Badminton England competitions from a community and legacy development perspective.
  • Use analytics and key insights to monitor, measure, develop and report on performance of content and channels.
  • Management of external communications and media relations – proactive PR approach.
  • Have a ‘big picture’ approach to plan and capture content with multiple usages across different platforms to maximise the value of assets.
  • Work with the Delivery and Insight Teams to identify content that is needed or wanted by our audiences.
  • Manage the capture and publishing schedule for content that supports our casual participation audience and meets their needs.

Successful Candidate:

Experience working within the community sport environment, with a strong understanding of the sporting landscape and the leisure operator market.
An interest in what makes our sport unique – showcasing the diversity and accessibility of badminton, attracting players of all abilities, and demonstrating how sport can make an impact on wellbeing, mental health and young people.
Must have an extremely strong creative flair with the ability to identify opportunities and translate these into meaningful and engaging content and story-telling.
Excellent experience of developing content to support the promotion of community sports products.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of digital media with working knowledge of how to use content to drive engagement, recruitment and retention in sporting environments
Excellent practical knowledge in video production with publishing software such as Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, Illustrator etc.
Good understanding of all marketing platforms (including e-commerce, PR, advertising, social).
Must understand KPI metrics specialising in digital campaigns and analysing the performance of content.
Experience in creating successful digitally led community marketing campaigns in a B2C and B2B environment.
Highly organised, ability to prioritise workload in an often busy department and effective at driving projects forward while working restricted hours.
Proven experience in managing freelancers and content producers to deliver against our plans.
Be a great team player, to be able to collaborate with other team members for the good of the game but also work on their own initiative.
Good communicator and must be able to communicate with a range of key stakeholders, including the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team and build strong relationships across the sport.

Key Information:

We’re all about output so we have Hybrid working and flexible hours in place – it’s a full-time role (35.58 hours per week), but we understand that people have lives outside of BE – please talk to us about what you need. We can’t promise anything, but we’re open to a discussion about how we can support you. The current hybrid working arrangements are at least 3 days a week on the office (with the core day being Thursday).

Salary: £28,000- £30,000 per annum depending on experience
