The post-pandemic surge in air passenger numbers has resulted in increased revenues for airports, allowing for investments in infrastructure. Additionally, the global political landscape has created a heightened need for improvements in defence facilities. The role of Senior Quantity Surveyor within the airfields arena is crucial to the commercial success of airfield projects, and you will work closely with the Operations team on-site, proactively managing projects with efficiency, meticulous planning, and robust monitoring and reporting.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you possess the ability to work independently and have the confidence to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, customers, and all stakeholders. Your resilience in the face of project changes and your rational decision-making skills set you apart. You are organised, methodical and a logical thinker, with a knack for effective time management and a passion to confront matters head-on. You thrive in an environment that is fast-paced and highly challenging.

You understand that building and maintaining relationships of trust with clients and customers is vital for success, as they can easily be lost which could prove detrimental to the business. You are not the type to cause friction and adversely affect relationships. This role is far from ordinary, as it involves critical infrastructure and the consistent delivery of projects on time and within budget. In this position, you will handle complex commercial matters on projects and your ability to adapt to changes in a rational manner and quickly understand their implications is key.

The diversity in locations, work scopes and experiences make this role dynamic, with each project presenting unique challenges. In recent years, we have successfully completed projects ranging from working with our strategic partner in surfacing the extension to the existing runway at Southampton Airport, to the rehabilitation of the runway surface and airfield ground lighting in the remote and challenging location of the island of Islay in the west of Scotland as principal contractor.

Key Responsibilities

  • An essential requirement is experience in leading the commercial functions on projects.
  • Demonstrate a good track record of delivering commercially successful projects.
  • Good written and presentational skills in a range of methods

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

To excel in this role, you must be comfortable working independently. You will be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of airfield projects. This includes monthly financial reporting and cost value reconciliation, change management in accordance with contract terms and conditions, procurement and management of subcontractors and their respective accounts, preparation and monitoring of cashflow reporting, and identification and management of risks and opportunities.
