Deloitte’s &GPS practice is one of the largest and most experienced providers of professional services to public sector clients in the UK and we are a Strategic Supplier to Government. Because of the regulated nature of procurement in the public sector, the firm maintains a specialist team, the Public Sector Bid Team (PSBT), to manage and support its public sector bidding activity.

The PSBT’s objective is to provide a cost-effective means of winning work in a highly competitive marketplace and to contribute to the management of commercial risk. The team also seeks to improve the win rate on public sector bids and assist the practice in achieving its ambitious growth target.

As a Bid Manager within the PSBT, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing priority bids throughout the entire bid lifecycle
  • Supporting bid strategy development, storyboarding and review processes
  • Coaching bid teams and providing constructive challenge to drive best practice and improve bid quality
  • Responding to bid related queries from the business
  • Contributing to our knowledge management bid repositories
  • Supporting the wider PSBT to deliver regular bidding improvement activities
  • Working effectively with diverse teams with an inclusive team culture

Essential skills

  • Experience and knowledge of managing large scale bids either within the Public or Private sector
  • Experience of facilitating bid strategy, storyboarding and/or review sessions
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organisational skills and a focus on bid quality
  • Ability to prioritise workload, meet tight deadlines, use initiative and work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently advise/challenge senior stakeholders on bid-related matters, quickly establish rapport, build trust and manage expectations
  • Ability to evaluate and enhance draft bid responses
  • Flexibility and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative and enthusiastic team player who works well with others to get things done
  • Intermediate Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of public sector procurement and the process of bidding under the UK public contracts regulations
  • Knowledge of public sector frameworks
  • Experience of drafting bid content for public sector opportunities
  • Awareness of the commercial aspects of bidding
  • Ability to challenge the status-quo and identify new ways to improve processes
  • Knowledge or experience of the structure and service models of a professional services firm
