Purpose of the Job

The Head of Inventory, will be accountable for the forensic lens being applied to all back office accounting and administration to accurately transact all physical fuel movements within the UK Land segment of WFS. This role provides leadership through Inventory within the Logistics function of the operation and is focused on eliminating stock losses through all product lines.

This individual sets the tone and the direction for all Inventory related activity through UK Land physical operations fuel movement. Within this role, the role holder will be continuously improving and finessing processes to be more fit for purpose, as product losses are minimized, holding the objective to eliminate.

Within this role, there are 3 direct reports. The management team within Inventory Accounting who are the drivers of forensic focus in this space, with a further 14 indirect reports handling the tactical delivery.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Deliver stock loss and gains within GPO tolerance levels
  • Deliver stock loss and gains within UK Land Budgeted expectation
  • Inspire, coach and lead Inventory including direct reports, indirect reports to deliver improved performance
  • Forensically analyze stock losses daily
  • Work with Infrastructure team to identify issues with physical operational assets which may be impacting stock loss performance
  • Work with Fleet team to identify issues with physical operational assets which may be impacting stock loss performance
  • Ensure colleague safety is paramount and a culture which becomes the norm
  • Build and manage key relationships with peers and internal stakeholders
  • Harvest a healthy and conducive environment and culture which acts as a platform for high performance
  • Encourage and develop colleagues cross-functionally to succeed and grow into high performing individuals and teams
  • Work collaboratively across UK Land with key stakeholders to drive the business forward

Geographic Scope & Travel Requirements

  • Role based in Staines National Logistics Centre, some travel to field based team may be required

  • Stock losses vs Budget (£) – UK Land
  • Stock losses vs throughput – GPO standards

Education Required

  • Business/Logistics Degree or equivalent experience is required.

Work Experience Required

  • Significant experience in a complex national multi-site logistics business.
  • In depth understanding of fuel distribution industry and business desirable
  • Experience in managing a central logistics centre desirable

Technical Skills & Specific Knowledge

  • High level of competence in Microsoft applications
  • Budgeting and resource allocation
  • ORTEC experience desirable
