International Student Recruitment Manager at University of Birmingham

Job Description

Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £34,980 to £44,263 with potential progression once in post to £46,974. Grade 7 

The University of Birmingham has a vibrant and growing community of students from overseas. The International Student Recruitment Manager is responsible for developing and delivering a strategy that will help the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and the University, achieve its growth ambitions for 2030 and beyond.

As the College’s International Student Recruitment Manager, you will have an excellent understanding of the national and global student recruitment environment and be able to optimise student acquisition from key markets while growing emerging markets. You will work effectively with key stakeholders to ensure the College meets its targets in undergraduate and postgraduate international student recruitment.

You will manage on campus, overseas and online activities, working with teams in the UK and at University offices around the world. You will build and maintain strategic relationships with partner institutions, managing the acquisition of students on articulation agreements. In this role, you will also support efforts to recruit students to the Dubai campus and for other transnational education projects.

As part of the College Student Recruitment team, you will provide leadership and expert advice. You contribute to a supportive and collaborative team ethos, both in the College and External Relations. 

Person Specification

  • Degree-level education or equivalent work experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Higher Education and experience of working in the sector
  • Working, in depth knowledge of international student recruitment and admissions
  • Strategic and critical thinking in relation to HE and international student recruitment
  • Experience of managing and delivering events – in-person and online
  • Ability to present to an audience in an enthusiastic and professional manner in-person and online
  • Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders and ability to influence colleagues at different levels of seniority
  • Experience and proven knowledge of the sensitivities when working in international education
  • A thorough understanding of cultural differences in international marketing
  • A proven, high standard of written and oral communication and confidence of dealing with projects at all levels.
  • High level of numeracy and computer literacy and skilled in using databases and spreadsheets, particularly Access and Excel, for analysing and modelling
  • Experience of budget negotiation and management
  • Evidence of ability to work under pressure and handle competing deadlines
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, influence and motivate
  • High-level of personal commitment, organisational skills and decision-making ability to deal with complex and difficult situations autonomously as they arise
  • Demonstrable leadership experience with excellent negotiation, diplomacy and communication skills
  • Experience of supervising or managing staff
  • Tenacious, with a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving
  • A team player but someone who can work independently
  • Ability to develop and lead productive and effective teams. Enthusiastic approach with an ability to bring people together to work on a common cause
  • Prepared to undertake occasional work in the evenings and weekends with some nights spent away from home and travel overseas.
