The role

The Inclusive Communities team support students in residence.

As a Chief Resident you will live in halls of residence to provide peer to peer support.

This includes:

  • Designing and delivering events to promote community building and wellbeing for students living in residence.
  • Providing advice and signposting for students seeking support.

The role is 15 hours per week, open only to current University of Bristol Students.

What will you be doing?

Chief Residents live in residence and are a visible, approachable presence in halls. During your shifts you will be located in a central common area, where students may approach you for advice. You will provide general peer-to-peer support and signpost students to appropriate support services.

As well as planning your own events, Chief residents provide leadership to Senior Residents and Junior Common Room Committees to ensure their events are designed and delivered to a high standard. With the support of the Inclusive Communities team, you will be ensuring the events and activities in your hall are inclusive and responsive to the needs of the students in residence.

You will also be asked to support the delivery of events organised by the Inclusive Communities team.

You should apply if

  • You are an enrolled student at the University of Bristol.
  • You are willing to move and live-in an assigned hall of residence for the duration of your role.
  • You have a strong working knowledge of University of Bristol services.
  • You are a self-starter with the ability to work independently to deliver pastoral support and events for students.
  • You have experience with leadership or mentoring.
  • You have experience working with or supporting diverse communities.
  • You are confident to approach students who may find social situations more challenging.
  • You are confident building and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders.
