The Corporate Finance team are looking for a Financial Accountant to provide a professional accounting service to the university. You will manage the fixed assets, investments, treasury and banking functions and your knowledge of accounting and financial controls will help us improve these areas.

We will be migrating to an Oracle finance system in 2024 which gives us plenty of opportunities to write new, improved processes.

What you will be doing

You will be the go-to person for the recording of our £1bn of fixed assets and £300m of deferred capital grants. You’ll oversee accounting, valuations, and maintenance of general ledger and fixed asset register data. You will work closely with our capital projects teams and lead a small team of your own.

You will also manage our treasury, banking and investment accounting. Added to your knowledge of our capital plan, this will help you forecast our cashflows and balance sheet position.

Bringing your knowledge of best practice financial controls, you will help us develop these functions, and we will ask you to develop our internal policies, so you will be an important part of our migration to Oracle.

The role will be crucial to our year-end, as you will manage and respond to audit queries and prepare regulatory returns including aspects of our financial statements.

Who you are

  • A qualified accountant. Experience of fixed asset and treasury accounting is not necessary if you are willing to learn.
  • Confident in your understanding of accounting practices and best practice financial controls.
  • You have experience of preparing external financial reports (like audit submissions) and you reconciling them back to source data.
  • A problem solver who is willing to investigate and remedy balances that don’t balance.

Who we are

Corporate Finance are a team of 13 that is part of the wider finance team. We are busy and diverse, looking after month-end and year-end processes, financial reporting, audit and regulatory returns, cash and treasury management and the setup of the university’s finance systems

This role is available on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
