Within our dynamic and hard-working Engineering team at our East Midlands site, we are recruiting for the position of Engineering Maintenance Manager (EMA). This role will be responsible for the day-to-day management and leadership of the Gama Aviation (Engineering) Ltd (GAEL) East Midlands 145 Base Maintenance hangar reporting to the GAEL 145 Base Maintenance Manager in Bournemouth.

The EMA must ensure all required Base and Line maintenance is completed to the required legal and professional standard. In addition, you (in conjunction with the GAEL senior management team) will be required to assist with the production of the annual budgets and responsible for maintaining oversight of the performance against the stated budgets.

You will provide the customer interface, ensuring all maintenance is carried out to enable the customer to meet their flying commitments. The EMA will be responsible for reporting on the daily aircraft availability and planning /scheduling maintenance inputs, to ensure maximum availability. The successful candidate will have strong leadership qualities and be able to work, with their team under time pressure, to maintain serviceability.

The ideal candidate must have an in-depth working knowledge of UK CAA 145 and BCAR regulations, demonstrated experience of management within a 145 environment. It is desirable that he/she holds a valid UK CAA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence with Group 3 Type Rating and ideally recent maintenance experience on a Vulcanair (Partenavia) P68R, but not essential.

You must also be prepared to work as part of a team not only locally at East Midlands but as an integral part of the MRO Group and as such must have strong communication, organization and leadership skills, with the ability to present the East Midlands operation at regular GAEL management meetings.

/ Responsibilities:

  • Making regular contact with the Operators CAMO, GAEL/GAL CAMO, GAEL Base Maintenance Manager and Managing Director to discuss the work programme and future planned work to ensure adequate facility/hangar space to allow the efficient and safe operation of the maintenance base
  • Work in close coordination with the GAMA BOH team handling the NPAS Fleet Base maintenance operations, including the centralised Planning and Resource Team for the smooth running of the operation
  • Attend the weekly customer/GAMA coordination meeting organized by the GAMA Account Manager
  • Ensuring that the daily utilisation of available resources is at a maximum and that overtime is strictly controlled
  • Ensuring quality control, compliance with Part 145/BCAR and that any non-conformances raised are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Monitoring and responding to quality audits and any findings which directly affect the maintenance facilities
  • Ensuring that the facilities and offices are kept clean and tidy at all times and that day-to-day housekeeping is kept to a high standard
  • Ensuring that correct procedures are implemented for the security and safety of aircraft under GAEL care or control
  • Ensuring in conjunction with the licensed engineers that aircraft inputs are planned and resourced with parts and services prepared with adequate lead-time
  • Ensuring in conjunction with licensed engineers, Planning and the Technical Services Department that each Base event is subject to a Pre-Input planning meeting and a Post Output review meeting
  • Ensuring that the planning & Technical Services department is informed, in a timely fashion, of maintenance activities
  • Ensuring necessary arrangements to ensure all parts and technical data (on each aircraft) are accurately recorded and issued to enable Technical Services to produce log book certificates immediately
  • Ensuring necessary arrangements to ensure all man-hours are accurately estimated and recorded to aid the Commercial Department in producing accurate estimates and contract changes
  • Ensuring necessary arrangements to measure productive output against non-productive and other man-hour losses such that inefficiencies are captured and reviewed
  • Ensuring in conjunction with Licensed engineers, that technical input is provided to the Commercial Department such that estimates for man hours are accurate in establishing aircraft down time and costs to customers
  • To ensure staff are conversant with aircraft type and system to liaise with the Engineering Director over trade training if deemed necessary
  • Ensuring in conjunction with Licensed engineers that first aid equipment is available, and that the accident book is properly maintained
  • Ensuring in conjunction with the hangar technical personnel that that Health and Safety procedures, processes and CoSHH are always observed by engineering staff
  • Ensure in conjunction with the GAEL Logistics Manager that an inventory of hangar tooling, lifting equipment and support equipment is maintained and that such tooling is serviced / calibrated IAW required standards in a timely manner and to meet the needs of the operation
  • Ensuring in conjunction with Crew Chiefs that tradesman have available to them all necessary publications, schedules and other documentation relevant to the job in hand
  • Monitoring the performance of engineers in consultation with Managers and Supervisors in so much that future difficulties and problem areas can be recognised, and corrective action taken
  • Coordinating the “through put” of work operations, both external and internal on the hangar floor
  • Advising all departments necessary of the customer’s requirements
  • Co-ordinating with the licensed engineers on the organisation of the work force to meet the schedule and targets set
  • Monitoring of engineering staff timekeeping
  • Approval and control of staff leave such that the throughput of work and aircraft licensed coverage is maintained
  • Defining overhaul and maintenance procedures in consultation with the Compliance Manager as necessary to comply with the company, airworthiness authority and mandatory requirements or standards. Such procedures shall consider current Human Factor principles
  • Monitoring the administration of all parts and equipment contained in the bonded and quarantine stores are stored under suitable conditions
  • Assessing and ensuring the competence of all hangar personnel in conjunction with respective manager/supervisors
  • Maintain discipline within their area of responsibility and in liaison with the GAEL Base Maintenance Manager and Engineering Director make recommendations for increase / decrease of resources as required
  • Maintain close liaison with the Airport Authorities and Management in regard to all issues that affect the GAEL facilities or its operation
  • Promote a safe working environment and culture within the team, ensuring H&S regulations are followed at all times

/ Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Extensive knowledge of UK CAA 145 and BCAR regulations
  • Demonstrable management experience within a Part 145 enironment, with a proactive mindset
  • Possess an UK CAA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence with Group 3 Type Rating
  • Ideally have recent maintenance experience on Vulcanair P68R aircraft
  • Ability to react to demand changes and manage the team accordingly
  • Personable with ability to interact with all skill sets and abilities with the MRO team
  • Must be driven to achieve and set goals and standards for the team
