Job description: We are looking for the perfect candidate to join our Food & Beverage team at Chester Zoo; someone who lives and breathes hospitality and thrives on providing excellent customer service. As a Coordinator you will be responsible for supporting the Supervisor with organising the daily activities of the front of house team in your designated unit, ensuring the team provide the world class experience that Chester Zoo is known for.

Food & Beverage at the zoo includes a variety of restaurants, serving everything from fast food to traditional family favourites, a Gastro-pub, as well as coffee shops, kiosks our staff canteen and a 450-seat street kitchen serving Indonesian inspired street food.

While you may be required to work in any of these outlets, you will initially be based in June’s food court, a busy restaurant offering fast-food style family friendly dishes such as delicious sustainably sourced fish & chips, pizzas and freshly made burgers!

The Role

Providing crucial support to the Food & Beverage Supervisor, this is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your winning combination of excellent operational and people skills.

You will:

  • Provide crucial support to the Food & Beverage Supervisor to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of your unit
  • Ensure the team are trained, empowered & fully committed to providing an excellent experience to every visitor every day through training and motivation
  • Make sure your unit is looking world class, and fully stocked to meet visitor expectations every day
  • Act as a role model to the front of house team, by delivering excellent customer service to every visitor

The Package

You’ll be 40 hours per week across a variety of shifts, 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis including weekends and bank holidays. Hours of work will generally be during our core zoo opening hours, although evening work will be required for events such as ‘Into the Night’ and ‘The Lanterns’.

  • Salary of £24,860.54 per annum (effective from 1 April 2024) based on 40 hours per week, plus paid overtime

Our Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as you will be working with and coordinating large groups of people on a daily basis, whether liaising with the public, suppliers or colleagues at all levels
  • Experience of working in a similar role, in high-volume restaurant or fast-food environment
  • A confident trainer, able to support, coach and mentor others in a variety of areas
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous experience of cash handling, stock management and completing compliance documentation
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office programmes, including Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as EPOS systems
