The role:
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer, with an opportunity to progress towards a team/project lead position.
Working as part of the Software team, developing and supporting software systems. The role is focussed on embedded software development initially, but there is scope to also work on developing PC-based applications. In time there is the opportunity to progress into a team lead/project management role.
Essentials:
- Education: Minimum of a first degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline or HND plus relevant experience.
- Primary programming language/experience should be C++, preferably in embedded software applications.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of object-oriented software design principles and their use in software applications.
- Demonstrate an understanding of time-critical software systems, such as multi-threading, synchronisation, interrupt handling.
- Experience of the full software development life cycle, working to an accredited quality standard such as ISO 9000.
- Familiar with the use of IDEs, debuggers, source code repositories, bug tracking databases and unit tests.
- Able to analyse a software requirement and create produce design proposals and project estimates.
Desirables:
- Familiarity and interest in scientific instrumentation and their applications, or similar industrial, scientific or medical products.
- Ideally 10+ years’ experience in a hands-on software development role
- Experience of working in a manufacturing/engineering company environment.
- A team player, comfortable with liaising with other departments as required, to ensure that the software meets requirements and is well supported.
- Experience in developing software which interfaces to electronics, including the use of FPGAs and SoCs.
- Experience with configuring and deploying embedded operating system components such as uboot and Linux.
- User interface design, including web-based applications.
- Experience of working with automation/IOT protocols such as OPC-UA, MQTT, Rest API, Thrift API
