Operational Director – Community & Greenspace

Job Description

Job title: Operational Director – Community & Greenspace

Company: Halton Borough Council

Job description: Operational Director – Community & Greenspace

Salary: £85,208 to £97,566

Halton Borough Council is an ambitious and successful local authority with a ‘can-do’ mentality woven into the fabric of our organisation.

We are an authority that achieves big things on a local, regional and global scale – whether that be the construction of the Mersey Gateway Bridge, supporting world-class science and innovation at Sci-Tech Daresbury, or being part of the clean hydrogen industrial revolution.

Due to a pending retirement, we are looking for an experienced, dynamic, forward-looking individual to be our new Operational Director for Community & Greenspace to drive transformational change within the department.

The Community & Greenspace department provides strategic leadership across a portfolio of key Council functions within four large divisions: Environment Services, Leisure Services, Community Safety & Protection, and Stadium & Catering. These cover key functions of the Council’s business including a range of statutory services, partnership working, community safety and some services of a commercial nature.

Working with partners beyond the Borough boundaries and supporting the development of the sub-regional agenda within the Liverpool City Region is a key aspect.

The successful candidate will lead a department where people are inspired, they feel valued and are encouraged to do a fantastic job for their colleagues and for the people of Halton. You will become an advocate for the area and deploy high level leadership, influencing and networking skills to enable the Halton to reimagine itself as a place in the contemporary environment.

There are many benefits to leading and working in Halton. You will be part of a strong leadership team, have the support of skilled, loyal and dedicated staff, and focused political leadership with a will to deliver a broad and ambitious agenda for Halton.

In common with other local authorities, particularly in the North of England, there are challenges to be faced. Over the last decade, the Council has adapted to significant cuts in central government funding. You will accept those challenges and bring a blend of skill, ability, and aptitude to generate a climate of creativity, pragmatism and commercial focus, turning challenges into opportunities and leading decisively.

You will have a strong political understanding, the ability to deliver results, and a flair for finding solutions that will add value to the day-to-day lives of Halton’s residents, businesses and visitors.

The role will not only provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to make a difference in Halton, but also to shape new partnerships and contribute collaboratively to the wider development of place in the Liverpool City Region.
